Bill Splitter

Split a bill between people with per-item custom shares, and distribute tax and tip proportionally.

Add each person splitting the bill, then add each line item with its cost. Tap a person's name under an item to toggle whether they're sharing it — an item defaults to everyone currently on the list, so remove people from items they didn't order. Tax and tip are calculated on the item subtotal and distributed proportionally: someone who ordered 75% of the food pays 75% of the tax and tip, not an equal share.

Why per-item shares instead of a flat equal split? The Tip Calculator handles the common case of splitting one total evenly — this tool is for when people ordered different things and should only pay for what they had.

Sharing: the page URL updates automatically as you edit the bill. Copy it from the address bar to send the exact split to everyone in the group — the data lives entirely in the link, nothing is sent to a server.

Worked example:

  • Alice orders a $30 entree, Bob orders a $10 entree
  • 10% tax + 20% tip on the $40 subtotal → $4 tax, $8 tip
  • Alice (75% of subtotal) owes $39.00, Bob (25%) owes $13.00

How is tax and tip split between people?

Tax and tip are calculated on the total item subtotal, then distributed to each person proportionally to how much of that subtotal they're responsible for. Someone whose items make up 75% of the bill pays 75% of the tax and tip — not an equal per-head share.

What happens if I don't assign an item to anyone?

An item with no one assigned is excluded from the subtotal, tax, and tip entirely, and a warning shows how many items are unassigned. Assign it to at least one person for it to count toward the split.

Can multiple people split one item?

Yes — tap as many people as shared an item, and its cost divides equally among just those people. A new item defaults to everyone currently on the list, so uncheck anyone who didn't have it.

How do I share the split with the group?

The page URL updates live as you add people, items, and amounts — copy it from your address bar and send it to the group. The whole bill is encoded in the link itself, so nothing is stored on a server.
