New Zealand is UTC+12 as NZST and UTC+13 as NZDT, which makes it the first populated place to reach any given date. Its clock changes in late September and early April — the opposite half of the year to the northern zones on this site, so a gap to Europe or North America can swing by two hours rather than one.

About Mountain Time

Mountain Time is UTC−7 as MST and UTC−6 as MDT, on the same transition dates as the rest of the United States. Arizona is the exception worth knowing: almost all of it stays on MST all year, so for the eight months the rest of the zone is on MDT, Phoenix keeps the same clock as Los Angeles rather than Denver.

How the difference is worked out

The gap between New Zealand Time and Mountain Time is not one number.
