1 month is not a fixed number of days: depending on which months it spans it covers between 28 and 31 days. That is why calendar arithmetic in months is done by moving the month number rather than by adding days.

Calendar arithmetic is less obvious than it looks. Adding 1 month to January 1, 2026 gives February 1, 2026, while the same offset from July 1, 2026 gives August 1, 2026, a different number of calendar days later, because the months in between are different lengths. The table above lists the result from the 1st of every month of 2026 so you can read off the pattern directly.
