3 months is not a fixed number of days: depending on which months it spans it covers between 89 and 92 days. That is why calendar arithmetic in months is done by moving the month number rather than by adding days.

Calendar arithmetic is less obvious than it looks. Adding 3 months to January 1, 2026 gives April 1, 2026, while the same offset from July 1, 2026 gives October 1, 2026, a different number of calendar days later, because the months in between are different lengths.
