6 months is not a fixed number of days: depending on which months it spans it covers between 181 and 184 days. That is why calendar arithmetic in months is done by moving the month number rather than by adding days.

Calendar arithmetic is less obvious than it looks. Adding 6 months to January 1, 2026 gives July 1, 2026, while the same offset from July 1, 2026 gives January 1, 2027, a different number of calendar days later, because the months in between are different lengths.
