A calendar you can read, write on or print

This is a plain monthly and yearly calendar for any year between 2000 and 2100. Pick a month to see it as a full grid with room in each day box, or switch to the year view for all twelve months at once. Click any day in the month view to save your own events on it. Nothing is sent anywhere and the whole thing works offline once the page has loaded — there is no account, no sign-in and no server holding your diary.

The Print button produces a clean sheet: the controls, the site header and the explanatory text all drop away, leaving just the grid with black-on-white ruling that survives a cheap printer. A printed month gives you a large box per day to write in; a printed year gives you a one-page wall planner with the holiday list underneath, because the twelve-up boxes are far too small to name anything inside.

Sunday or Monday — and why the grid changes shape

Calendars in the United States conventionally start the week on Sunday; most of Europe, and the ISO 8601 standard, start it on Monday. Neither is more correct, so the week start is a toggle rather than a decision made for you.

It is not only the column order that changes. Because the grid is padded out to whole weeks, moving the start day can change how many rows a month needs. February 2026 is the clearest example on the calendar: it has 28 days and begins on a Sunday, so a Sunday-first grid holds it in exactly four rows with no days borrowed from January or March at all — a shape a common year only produces when the 1st lands precisely on the first day of the display week. Start the same month on Monday and it needs five rows, with 26 January through 1 February leading and 1 and 2 March trailing. At the other extreme, a 31-day month beginning on the last day of the display week needs six rows: August 2026, Sunday-first, runs from 26 July to 5 September.

ISO week numbers

Turning on Week numbers adds a narrow column giving each row its ISO 8601 week number — the numbering used in payroll, manufacturing schedules and project plans, and the one people mean when they say "week 32".

The rule is that week 1 of a year is the week containing that year's first Thursday, and ISO weeks always run Monday to Sunday no matter which day your display starts on. Both halves have consequences that look like bugs and are not. A year's opening days can belong to the previous year's final week: 1 January 2027 is a Friday, and sits in week 53 of 2026, with 2027's own week 1 not beginning until Monday 4 January. The reverse happens at the other end — 31 December 2029 is a Monday, and is already week 1 of 2030. And because 52 weeks is only 364 days, roughly every fifth or sixth year has a 53rd week: between 2020 and 2035 the long years are 2020, 2026 and 2032.

If you display the week starting on Sunday and turn week numbers on, the number shown is the ISO week that the row's Monday falls in. The standard defines its weeks Monday-first, and renumbering them to match a Sunday-first display would produce figures that disagree with every payroll system that uses them.

The holidays that are marked

With Holidays on, 24 US federal holidays and widely-marked observances are named in the day box, and listed underneath the grid with their dates. December 2026 carries Christmas Eve on the 24th, Christmas on the 25th, Boxing Day on the 26th and New Year's Eve on the 31st; November 2026 has Veterans Day on the 11th, Thanksgiving on the 26th and Black Friday on the 27th. Plenty of months carry none at all — August 2026 is empty.

None of these dates are stored as a table that goes stale. Each holiday is held as a rule and the date is worked out for whichever year you are looking at, which is why the calendar answers for any year in its range rather than a handful someone typed in. Fixed-date holidays like Christmas never move. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November — not the last, which is a different day when November has five Thursdays. Memorial Day is the last Monday of May, not the fourth. Easter is derived with the Gregorian computus and roams between 22 March and 25 April: in 2027 it falls on 28 March, and in 2029 on 1 April, sharing the day with April Fools' Day, which is why a day box can carry two holidays at once.

Days spilling in from the neighbouring months are marked too, and their holidays come from their own year's rules. The last row of December 2026 runs into January 2027, and 1 January shows as New Year's Day there even though the grid is labelled with the previous year.

Sharing a particular month

The address bar tracks whatever you are looking at: a month reads as #2027-03 and a year as #2027. Copy the link and whoever opens it lands on the same view rather than on the current month. Because it is a URL fragment it is never sent to the server — there is nothing to log, and the page still works with no network at all.

Your own events

Click any day in the month view and a small editor opens for that date. An event needs a title; a time and a note are optional. Leave the time blank and it is an all-day event, which is what a birthday or a deadline usually is. Adding it closes the editor and drops it onto the grid; reopen the day to add another, or to edit or remove what is there. Days with something on them show it in the box, up to two events at a time with a "+2 more" line beneath, and the year view marks them with a small square so you can see at a glance which weeks are busy. Everything you save prints too, and sticks around in this browser — or follows you between devices if you sign in.

If you would rather not use a mouse, the grid works from the keyboard: tab to it once and then move between days with the arrow keys, Home and End for the ends of a week, and Enter or Space to open the day.

Where your events are kept, and how to get them out

By default they are stored in this browser, on this device, and nowhere else. There is no server of ours holding a copy — which is the point, and also the risk: clearing site data deletes them, and a browser that is short of disk space can evict them without asking. The storage page shows whether your browser has agreed to keep them and lets you ask it to.

So there are two ways to take them with you. Export .ics writes an iCalendar file that Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook all import — the way to get an event onto your phone. Export backup writes a JSON file that this tool can read back exactly, which is what to use before wiping a browser or moving to a new machine; Import backup reads one, either merging it with what is already here or replacing everything. Importing the same backup twice changes nothing, because every event carries its own identifier rather than being matched on its title.

Reading a calendar file in is not supported, only writing one out. A file from another calendar carries repeating events, time zones, alarms and invitations, and quietly dropping all of that while calling it an import would be worse than not offering it.

Keeping the same events on more than one device

Sign in with Google and your events are copied to your own Google Drive, in the private application folder that only this site can see. Open the calendar on another device, sign in with the same account, and they are there. There is still no server of ours in the middle: the data goes from your browser to your Drive and back, and you can revoke access or delete the copy from your account page at any time.

Both devices' events are kept when they differ — the two sets are merged rather than one replacing the other. If the same event was changed in two places, the more recent edit wins, and a deletion counts as an edit, so deleting on your phone deletes on your laptop rather than the laptop putting it back. What this does not do is watch for changes while the page is open: another device's edits appear the next time you load the page, not seconds after they happen. Signing out leaves everything in this browser untouched.

Other tools that keep dates

How do I print a blank calendar?

Turn the Holidays switch off — and the My events switch too, if you have saved any — then press Print. The day boxes then print empty, giving you a month grid to fill in by hand. The controls, site header and explanatory text are all excluded from the printout automatically.

Can I start the week on Monday?

Yes — the Sun / Mon toggle switches the week start. It changes the column order and can also change how many rows the month needs, because the grid is always padded out to whole weeks.

What are the week numbers next to each row?

They are ISO 8601 week numbers, the ones used in payroll and project schedules. Week 1 is the week containing the year’s first Thursday, and weeks run Monday to Sunday. Turn them on with the Week numbers switch.

Why is 1 January 2027 shown as week 53?

Because it is a Friday. Under ISO 8601 a week belongs to the year holding most of it, so the week of 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 is week 53 of 2026, and 2027’s week 1 starts on Monday 4 January. It looks like an off-by-one error and is the standard behaving correctly.

Which years have 53 weeks?

A year has 53 ISO weeks when it starts on a Thursday, or is a leap year starting on a Wednesday. Between 2020 and 2035 that means 2020, 2026 and 2032. Every other year in that span has 52.

Which holidays are marked?

24 US federal holidays and major observances — the eleven federal holidays plus days like Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Easter and Black Friday. Ones that are not observed near-universally carry a region label. For the observed dates when a holiday falls on a weekend, see the US Holidays tool.

Can I add my own events?

Yes. Click a day in the month view to add one, with a title and an optional time and note. No sign-in is needed — events are saved in this browser, they show in the day box and on the printout, and you can export them at any time. Signing in with Google is optional and adds a copy in your own Drive so they follow you between devices.

Where are my events stored, and can I lose them?

In this browser, in its local database — and, if you sign in, in the private application folder of your own Google Drive. Never on a server of ours. Signed out, clearing site data deletes them and a browser short on disk space may evict them, so use Export backup for anything you would mind losing, and see the storage page to ask your browser to keep the data.

How do I get my events into Google Calendar or my phone?

Press Export .ics and import the file into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. Timed events export at the wall-clock time you typed, with no time zone attached, so they land at that time wherever the importing calendar is set.

Can I import a calendar from somewhere else?

Only a backup file exported from this tool. A calendar file from elsewhere carries repeating events, time zones, alarms and invitations that this tool has nowhere to put, and importing a fraction of a file while calling it an import would lose data silently.

Do the events sync between my devices?

If you sign in with Google, yes — they are copied to your own Drive and picked up by any other device signed in to the same account. Signed out, each browser holds its own set and moving them across means Export backup on one and Import backup on the other.

What happens if I edit the same event on two devices?

The more recent edit wins. Events that only exist on one device are always kept — the two sets are merged, never replaced — and a deletion counts as an edit, so deleting on one device deletes on the other rather than the other putting it back.

Do changes appear straight away on my other device?

No. Drive is checked when the page loads, not continuously, so another device’s changes show up on your next page load rather than seconds after they happen.

Can I delete the Drive copy?

Yes, from your account page, which removes everything this site has stored in your Drive. You can also revoke access entirely from Google’s own permissions page. Either way the events already in this browser stay where they are.

How far back and forward does it go?

Any year from 2000 to 2100. Every date is derived from a rule rather than looked up in a table, so every year in that range is worked out the same way.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded it runs entirely in your browser — including adding and editing events, which are written locally first and reach Drive afterwards if you are signed in. Signed out there are no network calls at all. The month you are viewing is kept in the URL fragment, which is never sent to a server.
